No more Fiat cars in Tata showrooms
Tata and Fiat have made it official. Tata showrooms henceforth will not sell Fiat cars. In order to provide a greater focus to Fiat cars in India, Tata Motors will be handing over the distribution and service responsibility to a separate Fiat owned company.
This split will not affect the manufacturing activities of both the companies in their facility at Ranjangaon. This manufacturing plant has been churning out both Fiat and Tata cars since 2006 and also engines and transmission for the local and export market. Recently Fiat had announced a contract wherein they will be selling their acclaimed multijet engines to Maruti Suzuki. The new distribution agreement excludes this and Fiat will continue to supply engines and transmission to Tata Motors.
Currently there are 178 Fiat-franchised Tata dealers in 129 cities and these dealers will be encouraged to be a part of the standalone Fiat network. Fiat is in the process of establishing a new separate company which will assume responsibility for the entire commercial and service related activities for Fiat cars.
