Renault-Nissan donates Rs 1 crore to CM's relief fund for Chennai floods

Renault-Nissan India has donated a sum of Rs 1 crore to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's Public Relief fund to help with the relief and rehabilitation efforts after the disastrous Chennai floods. Renault-Nissan employees also pitched in with contributions aimed at helping fund NGOs involved with the relief efforts.

The company made another donation of Rs 5 lakh to the office of the joint director of Industrial Health and Safety, State of Tamil Nadu and to the local Lion's Club.

"We offer our deepest sympathy to those who have been affected by the worst floods in decades and express our admiration for citizens of Chennai, who have shown great resilience in these tough times. The Renault-Nissan Alliance has strong roots in Chennai and we will assist in all possible ways to restore normalcy," said Carlos Ghosn, chairman and CEO of the Renault-Nissan Alliance.

The company has additionally set up a dedicated Employee Relief Fund to provide assistance to employees who have suffered losses in the aftermath of the disaster. Its subsidiary, Nissan, also reopened all its service centres in the region in an effort to help Nissan owners whose cars were damaged in the floods.

Other auto manufacturers who have contributed to the flood relief operations include Hyundai and TVS Motor.

The Alliance entities are also working with various local NGOs to provide disaster relief as well as allocate funds raised through spontaneous employee contributions. This contribution is meant to complement the efforts of the state government in providing relief to victims of the flood and resettling them as soon as possible.  Separately, the company has already donated a sum of INR 500,000 to the office of the Joint Director of Industrial Health and Safety, State of Tamil Nadu and to the local Lions Club. The donation has helped in procuring relief material in Tambram and Kancheepuram districts, which are closest to the Renault-Nissan Alliance factory.
