Royal Enfield will sell the Himalayan without a centre stand and as of now you can’t buy one as an accessory from the company.
From the images in our first ride, you can see that the Himalayans we rode came with a centre stand. In fact, in our review, we also criticised it for the huge effort required to put the motorcycle on the main stand.
Our sources tell us that a lack of ease of use was not the reason for removing the main stand. As it turns out, Royal Enfield has discovered that when the motorcycle is ridden hard over bumps, the chain makes contact with the centre stand. This in turn means that the chain will be wear out far earlier than its regular life cycle.
RE dealerships in Maharashtra also haven’t started deliveries of the Himalayan yet. The dealerships are waiting for the price hike which will be effective from April 1, 2016. This hike basically comes into effect because of the increase in motor vehicle tax in Maharashtra. It is said that the on-road price of Himalayan in certain cities could cross the Rs 1.90 lakh mark. Also, for the first Himalayan delivery in any RE authorised dealership, noted motorcycle riders from England will be present.
The Royal Enfield Himalayan is a ground-up effort from the company. The chassis, brakes, suspension as well as engine are all-new. Speaking of the engine, the 410cc LS410 unit produces 24.5PS/32Nm and is mated to a 5-speed transmission. The motorcycle retails for Rs 1.55 lakh, ex-Maharashtra.
UPDATE: Royal Enfield has confirmed that these rumours are unrefuted. They have clarified that the Himalayan will indeed be sold with the centre stand as standard fitment
