Second-generation Land Rover Discovery Sport to be launched in India on February 13

Land Rover will launch the second generation Discovery Sport in India on February 13, with new underpinnings, updated engines and features. The Discovery Sport will get new front and rear bumpers with all-LED headlamps. The rear end of the SUV gets a distinctive blackened number plate area with sharp LED taillamps. The new version of the SUV will also come with updated Ingenium 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines which comply with the BSVI emission norms. The SUV will also get a mild hybrid system comprising of a 48-volt battery.

The hybrid system will store the energy lost during deceleration and provide assistance to the engine during acceleration. The SUV will sport a 9-speed automatic transmission along with an all-wheel-drive as standard.

The Discovery Sport is based on the Land Rover Premium Transverse Architecture (PTA) which will give the SUV 13 per cent more stiffer chassis compared to the previous model along with reduced NVH levels.

The Discovery Sport maintains the legacy of Land Rover with a host of off-road capabilities. The SUV comes with terrain response 2 which automatically select the driving modes depending on the road conditions. There is also torque vectoring feature which reduces understeer by controlled braking of the inside wheels. The SUV also has Emergency brake assist and high-speed emergency braking.

The interior of the SUV gets a 10-inch infotainment system with multi-touch gestures and voice control facility, along with a digital driver display which shows the driving information, navigation and safety data with wi-fi hotspot and phone connectivity. There is also a remote app through which the driver can perform various activities such as pre-cool cabin, lock or unlock the vehicle.

For the first time, a clear sight rearview mirror is given on the Discovery Sport. This rearview mirror turns into a camera on the press of a button and displays a wide-angle view to the driver. Another feature called clear sight ground view is present on the SUV, which shows the area beneath the bumper to tackle rocks and rough terrain.

The prices of the current version of Land Rover Discovery Sport starts from Rs 44.67 lakh ex-showroom for the base variant and goes up to Rs 62 lakh ex-showroom for the top trim HSE diesel variant. The new generation of the SUV can get a price hike of up to Rs 5 lakh, with the updated engines and added feature list.
