Spec Comparision: Honda Activa 5G vs Hero Maestro Edge vs TVS Jupiter vs Suzuki Access 125

HMSI launched the Honda Activa 5G last month, having first debuted the fifth generation of the Honda Activa, the most popular scooter in the country, at the recent Auto Expo 2018. The Honda Activa 5G is a minor facelift and has no significant upgrades to the already successful design and mechanicals of its predecessor. It is being sold in two variants-Standard and DLX. The Activa has been a very popular bike in a very competitive segment and we decided to see how it compares with its rivals - TVS Jupiter, Hero Maestro Edge and Suzuki Access 125. See what we found below.

The Honda Activa 5G comes with refreshed design which includes an all-LED headlights

Design

Like we mentioned earlier, the Honda Activa 5G is a minor facelift and has no significant upgrades to the already successful design of its predecessor. It does get additions like a segment-first full LED headlamp unit, with a position lamp. It also has some chrome garnish on the front apron.

The Hero Maestro Edge is positioned above the Maestro and features revised and relatively edgy styling. Sharp lines adorn the front apron and the mirrors feature dual tone shades. The rear end also looks more appealing than the regular Maestro and features an LED lamp.

The refreshed Access comes with retro-styling and a chromed headlight.

The TVS Jupiter is a rather handsome machine but takes a more subtle and thereby anonymous approach. The lines on the Jupiter are subtle and more in line with those on the Suzuki Access and Activa 5G.

The new Access debuted two years ago and is retro-looking and its appeal lies in its simplicity. The chromed headlight on the Access looks more conventional, while its long turn indicators make the front apron look taller.

Features

The Honda Activa 5G variant adds more modern features including a digital-analogue instrumentation display, with Eco Speed indicator and service-due indicator. The Activa 5G also receives a front hook, lock with a seat-opener switch as seen on the more premium Honda Grazia, and a metal muffler protector.

The Hero Maestro Edge gets a simple but comprehensive instrument display with features normally seen on motorcycles. It also has alloy wheels with the front wheel measuring 12-inches. Hero has also offered a decent feature list that includes USB charging port in the luggage bin, service due and side stand indicator.

The TVS Jupiter offers two carry hooks, one on the front apron and one under the seat hinge.

The TVS Jupiter uses a conventional analogue instrument gauge that has a speedometer, fuel gauge and what TVS calls an Econometer. It offers two carry hooks, one on the front apron and one under the seat hinge. The Jupiter has a provision for a mobile charger but doesn't actually offer one as standard.

The Suzuki Access includes a retro-styled chrome headlamp casing, a noticeably slimmer body than the old Access, alloy wheels, easy electric start, mobile charging socket and digi-analogue instrument cluster.

Engine & Suspension

The Honda Activa is powered by the same 109cc air-cooled single cylinder motor with HET from its predecessor, which produces 8.1PS and 8.8Nm. Suspension is a spring loaded hydraulics front and back.

The Hero Maestro Edge is powered by a 111cc air cooled single cylinder motor which puts out 8.4PS and 8.3 Nm. It features a similar rear suspension to the Activa while the front is equipped with a telescopic shock.

The TVS Jupiter comes with a 110cc, air-cooled single cylinder motor which gives 8PS and 8Nm. It stands out as being the only bike here offered with a monoshock rear suspension.

The Access has the largest engine here with its 125cc motor and unsurprisingly puts the best performance figures of 8.7PS and 10.2Nm. It features a similar suspension layout as the Activa 5G and the Jupiter.

The Activa 5G, TVS Jupiter and Maestro Edge are available with drums at both ends while the Access comes with discs in the front.
