Spec comparison: Bajaj Dominar 400 BS6 vs RE Himalayan BS6 vs KTM 390 Adventure vs Benelli Imperiale 400

The prices of the 2020 Bajaj Dominar 400 are out, which starts at Rs 1.91 lakh, ex-showroom. The motorcycle has not been updated in terms of design or features but now comes with a BSVI compliant engine. Starting from April 1, all manufacturers were to sell only BSVI compliant vehicles. However, the recent ruling by the Supreme Court has extended the deadline to April 24. Coming to the 2020 Dominar 400, Bajaj has increased the prices by close to Rs 1,800 from the BSIV model. This makes it lock horns with other 400cc offering such as the Royal Enfield Himalayan BSVI, KTM 390 Adventure and also the Benelli Imperiale 400. Where does the Dominar 400 stand against these rivals?

Engine

All the four motorcycles are offered with a single-cylinder engine with the most powerful being that of the KTM 390 Adventure. The 373.2cc unit produces 44PS at 9,000rpm and generates a torque of 37Nm at 7,000rpm. Following the KTM in terms of engine numbers is the 2020 Bajaj Dominar 400 that makes 40PS at 8,650rpm and 35Nm at 7,000rpm. The BSVI iteration of the Royal Enfield Himalayan makes 24.3PSa at 6,500rpm and 32Nm at 4,000-4,500rpm. Lastly, it is the Benelli Imperiale 400 which produces 21PS at 5,500rpm along with a torque rating of 29Nm at 4,500rpm.

Suspension

It is the Royal Enfield that gets the maximum suspension travel of 200mm in the front and 180mm in the rear, which will take care of the potholes and bumps. However, in our entry-level ADV story, we did experience the KTM 390 Adventure's plush ride quality. The Dominar 400 too is known for its capable suspension setup on the tarmac while touring on highways. Even the Benelli Imperiale 400, during our review, soaked up the bumps, undulations and potholes, cushioning the rider well from shocks.

Features

The Bajaj Dominar 400 comes with all-LED headlight, taillight, LCD instrumentation and dual channel ABS. Further, it gets slipper clutch as standard. The Benelli Imperiale 400 gets a retro styled analogue instrumentation and dual channel ABS. The RE Himalayan BSVI gets a switchable ABS and also hazard lights switch. Sitting on the top of these motorcycles in terms of features is the KTM 390 Adventure with colour TFT instrumentation, traction control, switchable ABS, cornering ABS, quickshifter, smartphone connectivity and navigation.
