Spied: Hyundai Creta sans camouflage in India

Hyundai India will launch the much awaited Creta on July 21, 2015 and with only a few days to go, the netscape is abuzz with spy shots of an uncamouflaged Creta. The images reveal Hyundai's new compact SUV in detail and the design does look typically Hyundai.

At first glance, the Creta looks like a scaled down Santa Fe. The three slat chrome grille on the Creta is especially reminiscent of its elder sibling. Projector headlamps with integrated DRLs seem like the norm at Hyundai with the Active i20 as well as the 4S Fluidic Verna featuring similarly themed units. The vertical front fog lamps are a distinctive feature since its competitors feature horizontally oriented, oval or round fog lamps.

Moving over to the side, the profile reveals a rising waistline which results in a smaller rear window. Black plastic cladding runs across the length of the lower portion of the Creta and also covers the wheel arches. This should help protect against pesky road users who don't mind scraping past the car in chaotic city traffic- scrapes on plastic are easy and cheaper to fix in comparison to sheet metal. The Creta also gets silver finish roof rails that do add to the appeal.

The rear end features wrap-around lamps with the licence plate holder integrated into the boot lid. A chunky strip of chrome headlines the licence plate recess and sits on a prominent crease that adds some definition to the rear. The reflectors are incorporated into the bumper that's part body coloured and part black plastic.

The interiors of the car look typically Hyundai in terms of both layout and finish. The steering wheel seems straight out of the i20 as do the column mounted stalks. The dashboard features swooping lines that merge into the centre console. There is an integrated audio system and the top model will even get automatic climate control. The vertically stacked AC vents also seem to gel well with the overall design of the dashboard. Knowing Hyundai, expect the car to come with a long list of features.

We expect Hyundai to equip the Creta with the same 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines seen in the 4S Fluidic Verna.

The Hyundai Creta is set to enter a heated battle - with established competition such as the Ford EcoSport, Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and Mahindra Scorpio, it looks like the new Hyundai surely has its work cut out for it.
