Tata Motors’ Sanand plant strike enters fourth week

14 Mar 2016 / 0

The ongoing employees’ strike at the Tata Motors Sanand plant has entered the 22nd day. Around 400 employees at the plant are on strike since February 22 demanding the reinstatement of 28 suspended workers.

The employees had announced that they will be staging a protest in front of the district collector’s office today. Around 22 trade and employees’ unions had pledged support to the workers’ protest. Around 500 trade union activists and supporters were expected to join the protest meet.

According to reports, the 28 employees were suspended as they had tried to pressurise the management into giving a raise and had allegedly tried to instigate other workmen too. The suspended employees also allegedly threatened the company personnel and tampered with the company’s property.

A few days earlier, Tata Motors had moved the Ahmedabad Sessions Court for an injunction to prevent any agitations at the Sanand plant. The employees had been denied permission to protest at the GIDS ground where the plant is located. Despite several rounds of talks being held between employees and company management, a settlement has not been reached.
