Team OD Updated: December 28, 2016, 09:01 PM IST

It is just a matter of few days that we will step into 2017. Automobile manufacturers are readying their next-generation of performance cars for a debut in 2017. This included the new-gen version of the cult Ford GT, BMW M5 and also the AMG GT C Roadster. Excitement levels, however, will be at an all-time high as the all-new Toyota Supra based on the BMW-Toyota alliance will arrive and so will the Mercedes-AMG Hypercar that shares its tech from F1 cars. Here is a detailed list of all the exciting launches expected in 2017.

New Ford GT

2016 Ford GT (6)

The new-generation Ford GT was first showcased at the 2015 North American International Auto Show. The excitement levels for the supercar was so high that almost everyone present at the unveiling wanted to book one. However, Ford had dampened their expectations by stating that only 250 specimens of the GT will be built till 2017. Seeing the large numbers pouring in, Ford Performance announced that it would add two more years of production for the all-new Ford GT supercar. The company claims that the GT will have the best power-to-weight ratio as compared to any other production car. This has been achieved with its lightweight carbon-fibre body. Powering the GT will be a newly designed 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 engine which puts over 608PS. The car also has racing-inspired pushrod suspension, active aerodynamics and dihedral doors. Get all the details on the Ford GT here.

The new-generation BMW 5 Series was launched in the international markets this year and is expected to hit Indian shores in sometime 2017. We have already driven the premium sedan (Read our first drive review here.) While it was not too long that the new 5 Series came, the world has already started talking about the next-generation BMW M5. The M division is believed to be working on a more aggressive sedan that will be lighter and sportier than the previous iteration. In addition, to the fact that the new BMW M5 will feature all-wheel drive, it is also being speculated that that it will come with a rear-wheel drive mode selector. The new-gen BMW M5 will rival the likes of Mercedes-AMG E63 and the Audi RS7.

Lamborghini Aventador S

Lamboghini Aventador S

As if the Lamborghini Aventador was not fast enough that the Italian supercar manufacturer has unveiled a hotter and sportier version of it. The Lamborghini Aventador S is powered by a V12 motor that puts out 740PS and generates 690Nm of torque. Lamborghini claims that this motor can do 0 to 100kmph in 2.9 seconds and can reach a top whack of 350kmph. In addition, the suspensions and electronics have been updated too which will translate into an even more dynamic handling. The Aventador S shares its lightweight carbon-fibre monocoque platform with the Aventador resulting in a dry weight of just 1,575kg. It will also come equipped with customisable driving modes like the Strada, Sport, Corsa and the new Ego mode.

McLaren 720 S

McLaren is believed to be working on the successor of the 650 S which might be called the 720 S. While McLaren remains tight-lipped about the project, test mules of the same have been spotted at different locations. The McLaren 720, being developed under the project name P14, will be powered by an all-new twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 instead of the 3.8-litre unit doing duty in the 650 S. It is also being speculated that the McLaren 720 S will come equipped with a hybrid powertrain. Other details on the supercar continue to remain sketchy. We believe McLaren will showcase the 720 S at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2017 and will compete with the likes of the Ferrari 488 GTB.

Mercedes-AMG Hypercar

MB-AMG-Vision-Grand-Turismo

The much-anticipated Mercedes-AMG's hypercar is coming next year. Dubbed R50, the street-legal monster will feature the same 1.6-litre turbocharged V6 engine as AMG's current W07 F1 racer. The engine will deliver an insane 1,320PS. The F1-inspired hypercar will come with a sub-1,315kg kerb weight and a chassis built around an F1-style carbon-fibre monocoque. Get all the details of the hypercar here.

Pagani Huayra Roadster

Pagani-Huayra-BC

During the beginning of this year, Pagani Automobili had teased a hard-core version of the Huayra on its Facebook page called the Huayra BC. This car will be a track-focussed version of the Huayra supercar. Although it might not be the most aesthetically pleasing thing to put on a beautifully carved Huayra, the way it is mounted on the car is quite interesting. This one will be powered by the Mercedes-AMG tuned twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre V12 motor that will deliver 720PS of power and 1,100Nm of torque just like the standard Huyara. Get all the details here.

Next-gen Toyota Supra

We had earlier reported that the BMW is working on the successor of the Z4 in collaboration with Toyota. The underpinnings of this car will also form the base of Toyota's new-generation car. Toyota is believed to revive the model name 'Supra' for the same. The same platform will also power the next-generation roadster which is believed to be called the BMW Z5. There is also a possibility of the new-gen Toyota Supra to feature a hybrid power plant as shown in the Toyota FT-1 concept. It is believed that the single-turbo straight-six of the previous generation might be ditched for a smaller 4-cylinder petrol unit.

Mercedes-AMG GT C Roadster

The Mercedes-AMG GT R is powered by the same 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 seen in the relatively less powerful AMG GT. However, the power has been increased to 585PS while the torque rating is 700Nm. Power is sent to the rear wheels with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. There is plenty of carbon fibre used throughout the track-focused car. As a result, the AMG GT R is lighter than the AMG GT S by a good 15kg. All of this translates into a 0-100kmph time of 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 318kmph. Deliveries of the same are expected to commence in March 2017 in Europe. Read details of the Mercedes AMG GT R.

Audi RS3

Audi Rs3 sedan 3

The new motor in the Audi RS3 sedan in 26kg lighter and more powerful as well. It produces the same power and torque output as the TT RS (400PS/480Nm), but under the RS3 sedan's hood it is marginally slower to the ton. The TT RS goes from 0 to 100kmph in 3.7s, the RS3 sedan will do it in 4.1s. Top speed is restricted to 250kmph by default. The engine is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic and the quattro all-wheel-drive system. The RS3 sits 25mm lower than the standard A3 sedan and has a wider front track too (20mm), making for more flared wheel arches. The RS3 sedan is expected to go on sale by early 2017, and there are chances that Audi could bring it to India as well. Read more about the Audi RS3 here.

Acura NSX Type R

Acura NSX Time Attack 1 and 2 Vehicles

The Japanese car manufacturer showcased the Acura Precision Concept at the Detroit Motor Show earlier this year, pointing the design direction in which the brand will proceed. The Type R is believed to be a hard-core version of the rear-wheel drive coupe. At the 2016 Broadmoor Pikes Peak, the Acura NSX featured three electric motor Sport Hybrid Super-Handling All Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) and a twin-turbo V6 engine mated to a 9-speed dual-clutch transmission. One of the three electric motors is placed between the engine and transmission, powering the rear wheels and the other two power the front wheels. More details of the Acura NSX Type R will feature only close to its debut which is expected to happen next year.
