Two-wheeler sales in India for September 2016

Compared to August 2016, majority two-wheeler manufacturers have registered a higher sales growth in September 2016. Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India has registered a sales growth of 31 per cent while TVS Motor Company has announced a 33.6 per cent jump in sales.

Just like August 2016, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India set new records in September 2016. For the third month in a row, the company sold over 3 lakh Activa units. Here’s a compilation of the sales numbers from Indian two-wheeler manufacturers for September 2016.

Hero MotoCorp

In September 2016, the company registered its highest ever monthly sales with 6,74,961 units sold. The previous highest monthly sales record was achieved in October 2015 with 6,39,802 units sold. Also, Hero MotoCorp registered a sales growth of 11 per cent over the corresponding period last year. In September 2015, it sold 6,06.744 units. This is the second consecutive month that the manufacturer has sold over six lakh units.

Hero Achiever 150 i3S (1)

In an official press release, the company has attributed the sales success to the Splendor iSmart 110 and the Glamour which is the highest-selling 125cc motorcycle in the country. It expects the recently launched Achiever 150 to receive a good market response.

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India has announced a 31 per cent rise in domestic sales with 5,39, 662 units sold. During the corresponding period last year, 4,11,635 units were sold. It’s motorcycle sales grew by 25 per cent with 1,84,007 units sold. During the corresponding period last year, it sold 1,47,227 units.

2016 Honda Activa-i Imperial Red Metallic

This is the third consecutive month that HMSI has sold over 3 lakh Activa units. With 3,55,655 units sold in September 2016, HMSI registered a 31 per cent growth in automatic scooter sales over the corresponding period last year. It also recorded its highest monthly exports with 29,349 units.

Commenting on the sales performance, Yadvinder Singh Guleria, senior vice-president, sales and marketing, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt Ltd, said, “September was a historic month for Honda. The positivity in the economy led by Seventh Central Pay Commission, One Rank One Pension (OROP) disbursements and favourable monsoon has translated to a robust return of demand in two-wheeler sector ahead of festivals.”

India Yamaha Motor

The company has announced a 33 per cent growth in domestic sales (including Nepal) in September 2016 with 89,423 units sold. During the corresponding period last year, the company had sold 67,267 units. India Yamaha Motor continues to attribute the sales growth to its customer engagement activities.

Yamaha Ray-ZR

Commenting on the sales performance, Roy Kurian, vice president – sales and marketing, Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt Ltd, said, “Yamaha’s sustained growth across segments has intensified its march towards the 1 million units mark, and by 2017 Yamaha could hit the coveted number. The demand for scooters in rural markets will rapidly draw parallel to the urban markets. Yamaha will continue to drive its scooters in the non-urban markets for the rest of the year.”

TVS Motor Company

The company has announced a sales growth of 33.6 per cent for the domestic market. It sold a total of 2,53,974 two-wheelers in September 2016. During the corresponding last year, it sold 1,90,063 units. The company’s motorcycle sales grew by 35.9 per cent with 1,22,813 units sold. In comparison, TVS Motor Company sold 90,393 units in September 2015.

With 84,850 units sold, the manufacturer registered a 12.7 per cent growth in scooter sales in September 2016. In comparison, the company sold 75,307 scooters in September 2015. TVS Motor Company has also announced an 8.3 per cent growth in two-wheeler exports.
