Union Budget 2016: Reduction in import duties should be top priority, says Nissan India

President of Nissan India operations, Guillaume Sicard had this to say about the company’s expectations from the upcoming Union Budget 2016.

“Industry sentiments are positive and we have seen all the right initiatives e.g. Make in India & Skill India taken by the Government. We expect that the Union Budget 2016 will pitch for stability as well as keep the momentum of growth going. The government will attempt to set off a rising tide that will lift all boats.

One of our top expectations would be a rationalisation plan for excise duty on passenger cars and reduction in import duties on spare parts, which, in turn, will reduce the manufacturing cost of vehicles.  The second one is a strong, measurable and effective old-vehicle scrappage policy – which will contribute to cleaning up the air in the cities and making our roads safer, while creating enormous demand for environment friendly automobiles. The third expectation from the Budget is to bring measures that incentivises assembly and production of hybrid passenger vehicles in India.”
