Unveiled 2012 Suzuki Escudo in Japan
Suzuki recently unveiled a face-lifted Escudo for the Japanese market. The Escudo is essentially the Grand Vitara as we and the rest of the world know it. The SUV has a tweaked front end with LED lights circling the fog lamps and new grille. The other changes are the new alloy wheels and some revisions to the rear design, notable being the omission of the spare tyre carrier from the tail gate.
The design revisions now essentially make the Escudo look more of the soft-roader part that the current day crossovers sport. In Japan, customers also have an option for going in for the Escudo X-Adventure trim which has additional features like ESP, suede-look seats with red contrast stitching on them, sunroof, 18-inch alloys and leather-wrapped gearshift and steering wheel.
There are no mechanical updates though with Suzuki persisting with the 2.4-litre DOHC powerplant, shared with the Kizashi in India. The special edition X-Adventure trim will be only available with a 4-speed auto transmission while the standard Escudo will have an option of a 5-speed manual. Both the trims have 4WD as standard. Suzuki has priced the X-Adventure at Rs 16.28 lakh ex-Japan
