Unveiled – 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA

Team OD Updated: May 09, 2013, 04:14 PM IST

We have seen the stylish CLS sedan and now here is the baby CLA. Mercedes chose to preview this 4-door sedan a day before its Detroit Auto Show debut. It is based on the same architecture as the new A-Class and puts power down to the road through the front or all wheels. Speaking of power, the CLA comes with an option of three petrol and two diesel engines. The base 1.6-litre petrol engine makes 122PS of power in the CLA180 while the CLA 200 makes 156PS and the CLA250 211PS. Out of the diesels, the 2.2-litre CLA220CDI produces 170PS and the CLA200CDI 136PS. All the engines are mated either to 6-speed manual or 7G-DCT transmissions. ECO stop/start is standard.

The design speaks of influences from bigger brother, the CLS. There are lots of cuts and swoops, yet it still unmistakably looks a Mercedes. Inside the CLA, Anthracite trim is standard while Mercedes is also offering aluminium and wooden as an option. As far as entertainment options go, customers get a 5.8-inch system as standard while those wanting a bigger screen can choose to go with the German manufacturer's seven-inch Command system. MBrace2 is offered as standard.

Price? In Europe, the CLA180 starts from Rs 21.10 lakh while the top of the line CLA220CDI is available for Rs 27.66 lakh. Bookings have started now and deliveries are expected to start from April.
