Unveiled McLaren X-1 Concept supercar
McLaren has built a one-off car for one of its ultra-rich customers. The X-1 Concept supercar was created by McLaren Special Operations (MSO). The directive was simple, the client wanted a car which should have the 12C's capabilities but wrapped in a unique body. Based on this, Frank Stephenson, design director MSO, used cars like 1959 Buick Electra, 1961 Facel Vega, 1971 Citroen SM and others for inspiration in building the X-1 Concept.
While there was a competition held amongst the company's designers, the final design selected was from its young designer Hong Yeo. Once the design was finalized, the entire project took two and half years to complete. While beneath its quirky bodywork lies the same carbon monocell that is used in the MP4-12C, McLaren says that each and every body panel used in the car is entirely new and were created only for it. The exterior paintwork is painted in piano black colour while the interiors are hewn from Harissa Red Nappa leather.
