Updated image gallery: Royal Enfield Classic 500 Pegasus edition
Royal Enfield has introduced the Classic 500 Pegasus edition, built to mark Royal Enfield's role in providing tough and reliable means of transport for troops during the World Wars. Mechanically the Pegasus edition is identical to the standard Bullet 500. It is powered by a 499 cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine good for 27.5PS and 41.3Nm. Only 1,000 bikes will be made of which 250 are earmarked for the Indian market. The bike is on sale in the UK and will be launched in India sometime later this year. For now, here is a detailed image gallery of the Royal Enfield Classic 500 Pegasus edition.
The Pegasus Edition is available in two colour options internationally - Service Brown and Olive Drab Green. Buyers in India will only get the Brown colour scheme since the Green colour, in India, is reserved for the armed forces vehicles only
The paint scheme and other elements are inspired by the Royal Enfield RE/WD 125 from WWII
The Royal Enfield RE/WD 125 also known as the Flying Flea
Each motorcycle comes with a unique serial number stencilled on the tank, reminiscent of the military motorcycle
The military style canvas panniers are similar to what the soldiers used, back in the day
The brown handlebar grips, leather strap with brass buckles across the air filter, blacked out silencer, rims and headlight bezel are reminiscent of Royal Enfield's World War bikes
The bikes have the Pegasus motif on the tank and the Royal Enfield logo that identical to the one the adorned the bikes during the World War
The Royal Enfield roundel is identical to the one on the Flying Flea
India will get the first 250 out of the 1,000 motorcycles for the world. The series begins with C 500 and the number 37 you see at the end denotes the 37th bike in the series
The Pegasus motif was the symbol of the airborne troops
The clocks are simple and similar to the unit on the Royal Enfield Classic 500
The attention to detail is quite impressive. The yellow stripe on the engine case showed the centre of gravity of the Flyng Flea, an essential piece of information to airdrop the bike, back then. The same has been replicated on the Royal Enfield Classic 500 Pegasus edition
TP 28 denoted the tyre pressure for the rear wheel of the Flying Flea.
The canvas panniers have double D-ring fasteners for that authentic, period look. It, understandably, isin't lockable and our dusty weather is sure to stain the canvas easily
There's a special line of accessories for the Pegasus edition. The company is including the half-face helmet and the shirt as part of the standard equipment with the Classic 500 Pegasus
