Volkswagen GTI set for Geneva debut

Volkswagen will be unveiling the GTI at the 2013 Geneva Auto Show. Based on the MkVII platform, the GTI has adopted the new Golf's looks with a upper and lower grille section laced with honeycombe inserts. It rides on 17-inch 225-section Brooklyn wheels. Inside, there is a GTI-embossed steering wheel and patterned seats. Powering it will be a 220PS 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine which also comes with an optional performance pack which boosts the power to 230PS. Two transmissions are on offer â" a 6-speed manual and 6-speed DSG. The performance pack enabled GTI races from 0-100kmph in a claimed 6.5 seconds, all the way to a top speed of 250kmph. Truly hot hatch territory then.
