Volkswagen Vento Cup to give way to Ameo Cup in 2017
Volkswagen Motorsport India has made it something of a habit of making a fairly radical change to their single-make championship every couple of years. First it was the Polos with TDI and then subsequently TSI engines, then it was the Vento Cup cars that made it to the championship.

However, OVERDRIVE has learned that after two years of running the Vento Cup cars as their single-make championship, there are plans to retire the series to make way for an all-new one-make championship - the Volkswagen Ameo Cup.
The Ameo Cup, which will make its debut in 2017, will feature 1.8-litre TSI engines. This could point to engines being used from the Skoda Superb. There is, however, the possibility that the 1.8-litre engine from the soon-to-be-launched Volkswagen Polo GTI might be used in the cars.
We have understood that the transmission options are still being considered, with the possibility of a manual gearbox, or a DSG gearbox, or even a full race-spec sequential gearbox still open.
When contacted about the new-for-2017 Volkswagen Ameo Cup, Sirish Vissa, VW Motorsport India head, declined to comment.
