Volvo S90 sedan to be launched in India on November 4, 2016
Volvo is all set to launch its flagship premium sedan, the S90, in India on November 04, 2016. Th S90 was first unveiled at the 2016 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS). Based on Volvo's new Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA) that also underpins the Volvo XC90, the S90 is expected to be offered in two trims.
The highlight of the all-new Volvo S90, in terms of design, has to be the LED headlights with Thor's hammer-styled daytime running lights. The front gets a large concave grille which is a tribute to its classic P1800, states Volvo. The rear looks stunning with the new C-shaped lights and an array of lines running along the width of the boot lid. It also gets large chrome-treated exhaust openings.
The new Volvo S90 measures 4,963mm in length, 1,442mm in height and 2,019mm in width, making it longer by 109mm, shorter by 51mm and wider by 112mm compared to the S80. Even the wheelbase has gone up from 2,835mm to 2,941mm.
The Volvo S90 comes equipped with a large touchscreen infotainment system that uses Volvo's Sensus user interface. It can control various functions like drive mode selector, change heads-up display position, adjust wiper settings, tyre-pressure monitoring system and lane departure warning.
The 2.0-litre diesel that powers the XC90 will also be one of the powertrain options. Similar to the SUV, this one too makes 225PS/470Nm and is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The international-spec model is offered with a supercharged T6 which churns out 316PS/400Nm as well as a 407PS plug-in hybrid T8 petrol version. Expect it to be available at a later date
The company has already started taking bookings for the S90 sedan. The prices are expected to start from Rs 57 lakh for the base variant and will compete with the likes of the BMW 5 Series, Audi A6, Mercedes-Benz E-Class.
