VW gets new race and rally chief
Volkswagen is definitely very serious about the world rally championship and other aspects of its motor sport programme. It has recruited Jost Capito to head Volkswagen Motorsport, replacing ex-Formula 3 driver Kris Nissen who has been director since 2003. Capito, 53, joins Volkswagen from Ford US, where he headed the global performance group.
Josh is best known at Ford for the 2009 Focus RS which astonished everyone with the way it handled 304PS with front-wheel drive. Recent developments have included the Fiesta ST. His background is in motorsport â" with Porsche and with Sauber in Formula 1 and he also has on his record a win as a co-driver in the truck category of the Paris-Dakar Raid. Lately at Ford, with responsibility for motorsport strategy, he had overall control of the world rally championship team run by Malcolm Wilson's M-Sport organisation.
