Yamaha Japan recalls approximately 1500 units of YZF-R3

Yamaha Japan has recalled approximately 1500 units of its R3 sportsbike over oil pump and transmission issues. According to Yamaha, the oil pump is said to have a design flaw which may restrict it from functioning properly. Secondly, the transmission problem resides with the clutch plate bearings. As reports suggests, the bearings don't possess sufficient strength and the continuous use of the clutch plate may damage the bearings, leaving the R3 non-operational.

Yamaha sells the R3 in the Indian market as a Completely Knocked Down (CKD) unit, which means the components are imported from Japan itself. This could increase the possibility of the Indian R3s possessing the same oil pump and transmission problems. To confirm, we contacted the manufacturer and Yamaha India stated that they are investigating the matter and nothing is confirmed yet.

Yamaha India had launched the YZF-R3 on August 11, 2015. Powered by a liquid-cooled 321cc twin cylinder engine, the R3 produces 42PS and 29.6Nm of torque. It's an entry level sportsbike that competes with the KTM RC 390 and the Kawasaki Ninja 300. Available in Racing Blue and Black Lightning colours, the Yamaha YZF-R3 is priced at Rs 3.26 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
