Yamaha to offer skill training and placement programme for underprivileged youth in India
Yamaha India is looking to adopt government technical institutes and partner NGOs across India to launch Yamaha Training Schools (YTS). As part of its CSR initiatives, the two-wheeler manufacturer plans to impart technical education to economically weaker youth and offer employment at Yamaha dealerships. For now, these schools will be based out of Yamaha Technical Academy (YTA) premises in Surajpur, Kolkata, Pune and Bangalore. Yamaha has signed an MoU with Navjyoti India Foundation (NIF), a non-profit organisation working to educate the marginalised sections of society. NIF's 'B School for Marginalized' is a unique programme launched in Delhi and NCR to bridge the skills gap between market demand and supply of trained people.

"Working with and investing in the less privileged youth is one of our ways of being a socially responsible company. We are looking at making a lasting impact on the lives of these young people by making them self-reliant. With the present MoU, we will develop a synergetic partnership with NIF thereby helping deserving students find employment in the automobile sector via impartment of technical training and education. The success of this model will facilitate its replication in other regions across India, thereby ensuring the company's contribution in some small measure towards the national goal of inclusive development," said Jun Nakata, director od sales, Yamaha Motor India. Yamaha says it will try to ensure that skills imparted by NIF's institute keep pace with the industry's technically skilled manpower demands. This will be done by screening the right candidates from NIF and providing them an opportunity to get on-the-job training at Yamaha motorcycle repair and servicing in YTA/ YTS.
