Opinion: Holding down the fort
To kick off the year the OVERDRIVE team is going to Auto Expo 2012 but I won't be going. The reason that I'm on the 'sub bench' for the big game is that someone has to stay back to hold down the fort, bringing you the news as it breaks. Having drawn the short straw this time means that I will miss seeing the fantastic Nissan GT-R at the Pragati Maidan.
The show promises more exciting cars on display; the M5 from BMW, Hyundai's sleek Veloster with its quirky single driver-side door, Audi's 408PS A3 concept, the Skoda Fabia RS 2000 concept and other sporty offerings from Peugeot and Merc. All great cars that I would have loved to see in the metal. No less significant we expect to see Maruti's new MUV, Peugeot's line-up for India, Volkswagen's new Beetle, a diesel Nano and face lifted cars from Hyundai & Toyota. Topping this off is the exciting line up for two wheelers; Triumph's offerings for India being the main draw.
The cards have been dealt leaving me with two long years of waiting to see my first Auto Expo and I won't even try to pretend that updating our website is 'just as exciting as being there'. The few (and far between) downers of being an auto journo aside, I'll be first in line to grab the keys when any of these beauties make an appearance at the OVERDRIVE garage in 2012. So no long face for me.
