Opinion: These boots are meant for walking

What am I looking forward to at the Auto Expo 2012? Not the endless walking around Pragati Maidan for sure! And certainly not the near freezing temperature. But all that ceases to matter when I think of all that awesome machinery that I will be running around, drooling over and sneaking a sly caress/sniff/taste (yes, I'm weird like that) when no one's looking.

So which stalls am I most likely to be escorted out of? First there is that little orange one in the motorcycle section belonging to a certain Austrian manufacturer who has promised to show us the Duke 200. Ask anyone from OVERDRIVE about the zoned out expression I get every time the letters K, T and M and mentioned together and you'll know why I'll be camped outside their stall. Next in line for me to pay homage to will be the Triumphs on display, especially since that retro-classic Bonneville will be present at the Expo. I've never been a fan of too much chrome and the Bonne, to me, is the perfect balance of glossy paint, shiny bits and old school British charm. Once done with these two I'll make a beeline to the Yamaha store. Unfortunately, my favourite manufacturer does not have anything very exciting going on this year. Of course there'll be a bike belonging to some Jorge from MotoGP which will be on display. But I don't care for him much. So the only way more than a cursory glance will be awarded will be if the folks at Yam bring along some of the Teneres. Once that is done its over to the Hyosung stall to check out the new GT250. Why? Because I've always thought the old Comet was a very sorted machine and I want to see what the new one is like.

Being more inclined to the two wheeled kind, there are very few cars I would really want to drool over. One of them of course is the stuff that legends are made and whose predecessor was a legend in its own right â€" the Nissan GT-R. Then of course there is the Honda stall where the NSX will be on display. After these two there is the BMW M5 which I've been hearing so much about. Then I need to find out why Sirish has been raving so much about the Q3 that Audi is unveiling. Finally there is the Mercedes stall to see the brand new ML class, the latest incarnation of the ML350 that I drove to Dha and Hanu.

In conclusion, while I might be a firm believer of the principle that auto journos should never travel for more than 500m unless assisted by automobiles, this is one place where I would gladly bend my own rules a little bit and put some wear and tear on my sneakers.
