Spec comparison: Hyundai Creta vs Renault Duster vs Ford EcoSport
Hyundai unveiled the Creta compact SUV amid much fanfare on June 27, 2015 and we already took the SUV out for a quick first drive impression at Hyundai's plant in Sriperumbudur.
The Hyundai Creta will be available with a choice of three engines and two transmissions. Hyundai is also the only one to offer an automatic transmission coupled to a diesel engine in this category. The Hyundai Creta will be up against the Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster. Both these cars have been around in the Indian market for quite some time and have proved their mettle.
The Creta will be in showrooms by July 21, 2015. There is one more competitor in this mix - the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross. However, we haven't driven it yet nor are there any details available on the powertrains. What we know so far is that the Maruti S-Cross will have all-new 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines and will be available only with manual transmissions. These engines will be sourced from Fiat and while globally there is an AWD available, the Indian market may not get it.
Here, the Hyundai Creta, on paper, has the most powerful engine. All three SUVs here come with a choice of three engines, the EcoSport being the only one to offer a turbopetrol while the Duster gets AWD as an option. The Creta is also the most feature-rich - an area which the Renault Duster needs to catch up in.
Here is how the Creta sizes up to the competition in this specifications comparison. When details on the India-bound S-Cross are out, we'll add to to this comparison to see how it fares in this segment.
