Spec comparison: Renault Duster RxZ AWD vs Mahindra Scorpio S10 4WD

Within a day of each other, two refreshed SUVs have been launched in India. These are the new Duster and the Scorpio. The Scorpio has been the masses darling ever since the first model was launched in 2002. Over the years, Mahindra has added cosmetic updates and in 2004, an engine change as well. However precious little has been done to keep the updates flowing in. The Duster on the other hand, since its launch in 2012, has been Renault's cash cow in India. The Renault received some minor updates and addition of a new trim. The launch yesterday, brought hiking boots to the Duster range. The Duster AWD promises to be a soft roader with bit off-roading credentials. The new Scorpio boasts of a dedicated four-wheel drive system with shift on fly. Based on our previous experience with the Scorpio 4WD, it is quite a capable off-roader at crawling speeds. The Duster AWD in the meanwhile doesn't get low ratio mode like the Scorpio and makes do with a less capable electronic system that is tuned more for grip than off-road prowess. The Duster however still gets a four-wheel drive lock mode that makes it a permanent four-wheel drive vehicle at lower speeds.
