Ather Energy is the newest two-wheeler manufacturer in the country and has launched what is India’s first ever smart electric scooter. The scooter is on offer in two guises, the 340 and 450, with the only difference between the two versions being their power outputs. We rode the more powerful 450, which offers up to 5.4kWh or 7.3PS of power along with a highly impressive 20.5Nm, which is in fact higher than the torque output of 150cc motorcycles. More importantly, the Ather 450 also boasts excellent handling dynamics. But the biggest highlight here is the scooter’s elaborate feature and equipment list. It comes equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen for the instrument cluster which also integrates a SIM card and is connected to the internet all the time. The instrument cluster offers onboard navigation without having to depend on one’s smartphone, though a dedicated app helps you access critical information about the scooter. It runs on 12-inch wheels at both ends shod with MRF tyres and also gets hydraulic disc brakes at the front and rear. Underseat storage is higher than most scooters in the country too.
