2013 Lamborghini Aventador gets fuel-saving technology
Lamborghini has announced that its 2013 Aventador will have fuel-saving technology like stop/start and cylinder deactivation. For the former, Lamborghini claims it has devised the supercaps capacitors which provide the power to restart the 700PS supercar to start within 180 milliseconds. A substantial 3kg is shaved off from the vehicle's gross weight due to the use of the supercaps than similar systems. Lamborghini also says that the conventional battery used occupies less space and supplies power only to the electronic systems while virtually lasting the life of the car.
The Cylinder Deactivation System under speeds of 135kmph deactivates one cylinder bank, allowing the engine to run as an inline six. However, prodding the accelerator brings back the performance of the V12 engine. How much does all this affect the fuel efficiency of the Aventador? A whopping 20 per cent is Lamborghini's answer.
