2015 Geneva Motor Show: Honda Civic Type R and NSX unveiled
There are hot hatches, and then there is the Civic Type R. Honda's racecar for the road has got an all-new avatar after a five year long wait and the result is a hatchback that proudly claims to be the most powerful production CTR yet. Boasting  310PS at crank and a torque output of 400Nm from its 2.0-litre petrol motor, the new Civic Type R is claimed to race from naught to 100kmph in 5.7s with a top whack of 270kmph. The power is fed to the tailor-made 235/35-R19 tyres through a six-speed manual transmission.
The 2015 Civic Type R is suspended by dual-axis front struts and a 'crushed pipe' rear. Honda claims that the front suspension has managed to reduce the torque steer by up to 50 per cent, while the rear setup has improved roll rigidity by 180 per cent. The new CTR also gets a dual-pinion EPS that claims to be linear, responsive and has 'abundant feel'.
The new Civic Type R borrows its design cues from the two preceding concepts that were shown last year. While the front-end, with its projector headlamps, sharp lines, large air-intakes, splitter and ventilated fenders looks largely like the concept, the rear has lost the radical devil-horn shaped spoiler with integrated lamps and uses a more typical CTR design instead. The big diffuser and the quad pipes for the exhaust system complete the Type R design package. On the inside are red and black sports seats, a leather wrapped steering wheel and a machined gear knob.
A GT package can be specified with the car, which adds more red accents, automatic headlights and wipers, parking sensors, a GPS enabled infotainment system etc. Notable safety tech includes a forward collision warning, lane departure warning and traffic sign recognition. The instrumentation gets a lap-timer as well. Speaking of which, the Civic Type R was said to be gunning for a new lap record at the Nürburgring for front wheel-driven cars, but there is no mention of it yet. We hope to see more dope on that from the Geneva Show floor.
The Honda NSX which was unveiled at the LA Auto Show is also an exhibit at the Geneva Motor Show 2015.
