2016 Triumph Bonneville Street Twin and T120 recalled, India not affected
Triumph Motorcycles has issued a recall of the 2016 Street Twin and Bonneville T120. The affected units, are likely to catch fire, and are manufactured between September 7, 2015 to November 21, 2015. Triumph Motorcycles India has confirmed that none of VINs affected by this recall are in India. The findings of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the US and the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) in the UK has revealed a flaw in the design of fuel pump harness.
The official statement by the DVSA states, "There is a possibility of a fuel leak via fuel pump subharness because of a problem with the moulding tool used to manufacture the subharness. A fuel leak could heighten the risk of fire."
What this means is that the wiring in the fuel tank that powers the fuel pump may have inadequate insulation. The fuel could enter the wiring and trickle down the harness to the outside of the tank. It could also drip from the connector at the main harness. A fuel leak with an ignition source such as an electrical short could result in the motorcycle ending up in flames. Triumph Motorcycles will get in touch with owners and inspect the fuel pump harness and replace it, free of cost.
The company recently revealed the 2016 Bonneville range in India. The Bonneville Street Twin is priced at Rs 6.9 lakh (ex-Delhi). It gets a newly developed 900cc parallel twin engine that develops 55PS at 5,900rpm and 80Nm at 3,230rpm.
The Bonneville T120 sells at Rs 8.7 lakh and gets a brand new 1200cc parallel twin engine that develops 105Nm. Triumph India will launch the Thruxton R in India soon. Watch this space for a detailed road test of the 2016 Bonnevilles in India.
