2018 Ford Freestyle: Variants explained

Ford is gearing up to launch the Freestyle, the Figo-based crossover, in India that was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo. The bookings for the same are expected to start next week in India followed by its deliveries in the same month. Ford will be offering the Freestyle in both petrol and diesel engines, mated to a manual transmission. The diesel unit has been retained from the Figo hatchabck whereas the petrol is Ford's new 1.2-litre, three-cylinder Dragon series. We have already driven the 2018 Ford Freestyle and here are our initial impressions. Which variant of the Ford Freestyle will make sense for you? Here is a detailed lowdown on what the different variants of the crossover have to offer.

Ambiente

The base variant of the Ford Freestyle comes with a blackened headlamp bezel and grille mesh, body cladding on sides and wheel arches, body-coloured door handles, black surrounds around the fog lamps, black roof rails and skid plates. The cabin sports a charcoal black theme, scuff plates in the front and adjustable front seat headrest. In terms of instrumentation, the Ford Freestyle Ambiente comes with a trip computer, low-fuel warning light, distance to empty etc. Importantly, the safety kit that is standard across all the variants includes ABS with EBD, front dual airbags, engine immobilizer, high-speed warning alarm, reverse parking sensor and anti-theft alarm.

Trend

Positioned above the Ambiente variant is the Trend variant. It comes with the same set of exterior features as the Ambiente variant, except for blackened pillars and ORVM mounted turn indicators. The Freestyle Trend variant is offered with sienna seat upholstery, rear parcel tray, fabric on door trim panels, chrome parking brake knob, MP3, AM/FM compatible music system with USB and Bluetooth connectivity, steering mounted audio controls, touchscreen infotainment system with navigation.

Titanium

The Ford Freestyle Titanium comes with active rollover protection, driver seat height adjustment, rear window washer and wiper, push-button start, electrically adjustable ORVMs and automatic climate control. Unlike the Ambiente and the Trend variants that sport steel wheels, the Ford Freestyle Titanium variant runs on 15-inch alloy wheels shod with 185/60 tyres.

Titanium+

The Titanium+ trim is the top of the line variant of the Ford Freestyle in India. This trim comes equipped with Sync3 with voice control and a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Additionally, there are two USB ports. The other features that are offered in the Ford Freestyle include automatic headlamps, rain sensing wipers, and Ford's MyKey.

All the four variants of the Ford Freestyle will be available in both, 1.2-litre, three-cylinder Dragon series petrol and the 1.5-litre diesel engines. The petrol unit makes 96PS/120Nm whereas the diesel generates 100PS/215Nm. Both the engines are offered with a 5-speed manual transmission. The Ford Freestyle has an ARAI approved fuel efficiency of 19kmpl for the petrol and 24.4kmpl for the diesel.
