2019 BMW 7-Series facelift to launch in India tomorrow

BMW India is set to launch the latest iteration of its flagship sedan, the BMW 7-Series, tomorrow. This is not an all-new car, but a mid-life update of the car currently on sale. The BMW 7-Series competes with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Audi A8L.

The 7 Series gets a significant update to its frontal styling. Taking centre stage is the 40 per cent larger BMW kidney grille which is more upright and protruding. The headlamps are now slimmer and get the latest laser tech, the LED light signature too is now much sleeker and has been derived from the angular design of the new 3 Series. Also new is the front bumper with its more aggressive and larger air intakes. The bonnet also gets new indentations on the sides.  The changes to the rear are more subtle. There is a new LED signature for the taillamps, and new surrounds around the exhausts. The M Sport gets more aggressive bumpers while the V12 gets a quad-exhaust setup finished in chrome. Also new is the more upright vertical element on the hockey stick like chrome trim that runs along the length of the car.

It gets a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch Control Display on the centre.  The trim has been updated with a new design leather wrapped steering wheel and updated panels with driver assistance features. The 7 Series now gets Bowers and Wilkins Diamond 3D surround system as an optional feature. Occupants seated at the back can make use of the rear-seat entertainment system with full-HD touchscreen display. BMW claims that sound proofing has been improved around the rear wheel arches, B-pillars and seatbelt outlet covers in the rear, and for the side windows and rear window.

The 7-Series engines have seen an update too. The BMW M760Li xDrive continues with its V12 motor. The V8's output has been raised by 80PS to make it deliver 530PS for the BMW 750i xDrive. There will be three diesel engine options, in the 730d, 740d and 750d, with up to four turbochargers and outputs ranging from 265PS to 400PS. Additionally, BMW is also offering plug-in hybrid variant of the new 7 Series in the 745e. It comes with specially adapted six-cylinder in-line petrol engine and upgraded high-voltage battery. The system output in Sport mode has been raised to a maximum of 394PS whereas the electric range has been increased to 50 â€" 58 kilometres. BMW states adaptive suspension and two-axle air suspension are fitted as standard. Integral Active Steering and Executive Drive Pro with active roll stabilisation (not available for plug-in hybrid models) will be available as options. We think the six-cylinder petrol/diesel motors will make it here.

We think prices of the BMW 7-Series facelift will start at around the Rs 1.2 crore mark, on-road.
