2019 Ducati Multistrada 1260 Enduro specifications explained

The Ducati Multistrada is one of the most popular and powerful adventure tourers on sale globally. While it is known for its performance on tarmac, there were some who wanted an off-road centric version of the Multistrada. And Ducati answered that with the Multistrada Enduro in 2016, which was basically a go-anywhere version of this motorcycle with riding and electronic aids and also hardware to support that. The Ducati Multistrada 1200 had immense presence with a 30-litre fuel tank and 19-inch front wheels and a host of protection guards. The all-new Ducati Multistrada 1260 Enduro gets more updates in form of updated electronics, riding aids and most importantly a more powerful 1,262cc Testastretta DVT V-twin engine. It will be launched in India on July 9.

This engine was first seen on the Ducai xDiavel which was essentially a more of a cruiser than its aggressive sibling, the Diavel. Ducati then used the same engine in the updated Multistrada, that is currently available in three configurations, the 1260, 1260S and the top-of-the line 1260 Pikes Peak. The larger displacement of this engine has been achieved by the use of a longer piston stroke from 67.9 to 71.5mm while the bore has been kept at 106mm. Further, the engine's hardware has been tweaked too with the use of new piston rods, crankshafts and also new cylinders. The engine's lower and mid range performance has been improved by tweaking the DVT (Ducati's Desmodromic Variable Timing).

Ducati mentions that 85 per cent of the torque in the new Enduro is available at below 3,500rpm. Also, the torque output has been increased at 5,500rpm by 17 per cent as compared to the 1,200cc offering. The larger engine has also resulted in a better power delivery of 158PS at 9,500rpm, an increment of 6PS over the outgoing version, and a torque of 127Nm at 7,500rpm. Additionally, the exhaust pipe layout has been updated with a new pre-silencer internal layout and a redesigned air-intake. The engine also gets a new alternator cover which has the new gear sensor, that takes care of the DQS (Ducati Quick Shift) Up and Down system that allows clutchless up and downshifts. In terms of gearing, the first and the sixth has been shortened in comparison to that of the 1200 Enduro. Ducati mentions that the oil change interval for this engine has set at 15,000km while Desmo service which includes valve clearance check has been set at 30,000km. How does the more powerful engine of the 2019 Ducati Multistrada 1260 Enduro fair in real world conditions, here's our detailed first drive review.
