2019 Geneva Motor Show: The Vision iV concept hints that Skoda wants a coupé crossover

The Skoda Vision iV concept is proof that the Czech carmaker wants to join the coup crossover bandwagon to add another dimension to its increasing SUV range. Very likely to enter production, the concept iV is similar in the footprint to the Skoda Kodiaq, measuring 4.6m in length.

The design is the sharpest we have seen on any Skoda SUV yet and features a unique LED lighting element that runs along the width of the car, connecting the headlamps. The bodywork is also devoid of the typical protrusions in the door handles and wing mirrors. The doors open automatically using touch-sensitive locks, while the wing mirrors are replaced with wide-angle cameras that create a 180-degree view of the surroundings.

The iV concept is also the first Skoda to be underpinned by Volkswagen's MEB (Modular Electrification Toolkit) architecture. It features a twin-motor set-up for an all-wheel-drive configuration and a combined system output of 306PS which is good for a 180kmph top speed and a 0-100kmph sprint claim of 5.9s. Skoda points out that the 80-120kmph roll-on acceleration takes all of 4s. Skoda claims that the Vision iV is capable of a single-charge driving range of up to 500km. Its 83kWh lithium-ion battery pack can be charged by 80 per cent in 30 minutes using a fast charger.

The Skoda Vision iV features swiveling seats, a forward-looking cabin and even autonomous driving technologies and barring the latter, most of the conceptual elements are expected to be watered down for the production-ready car - which is likely to come out by 2021.
