2019 Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S Edition 1 four-door launched globally
'Edition 1' is a new tradition at Mercedes-Benz and is their celebratory symbol of the first batch of a new model line. The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S Edition 1 does just that for the new four-door sports coup that debuted at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year. Apart from green-lighting a model line into the market, Edition 1 models usually differentiate themselves from the mass-production models by way of cosmetic and/or performance add-ons.
In the case of the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S Edition 1, the super-sedan receives plenty of AMG love in the form of the cool fixed rear spoiler, 21-inch forged wheels and some aero enhancing winglets. The sleek bodywork is finished in matte gunmetal grey and garnished with contrasting grey decals on the hood, roof and doors. The cabin gets AMG sports buckets, grey and black cabin colors that reflect the theme of the exteriors, contrasting yellow stitching and the bright yellow seatbelts typical to the GT line of sportscars from AMG.
The GT four-door line from Mercedes-AMG is powered by the 4.0l V8 bi-turbo engine and the family comprises of the 429PS GT 53, the 577PS GT 63 and the 630PS GT 63 S. As the name suggests, the Edition 1 will be available only on the range-topping GT 63 S and will remain on sale for twelve months.
Given that India sits lower down the priority list for most luxury models, we don't often get any of the Mercedes-Benz Edition 1 models (except for the namesake A-Class and B-Class editions from 2014). But in intent, these 'Edition 1' models are quite similar to the limited 'Launch Editions' that Mercedes-Benz India offers around the launch of any new model-line. Given the popularity of the GT line in the Indian market and the brand's aggressive strategy of making its global portfolio available to the Indian consumers, it is only a matter of time before the GT four-door makes its way to our shores.
