2019 Mercedes-Benz models launch plan revealed, includes new CLA Coupe, GLS and EQC SUVs
Earlier this month, Mercedes-India released a statement mentioning the sale of 11,789 units between January to September 2018. The E-Class, C-Class sedan, S-Class sedan and CLA and the GLA, GLC and GLE continued to drive volumes for the brand, mentioned the company. And now the German car manufacturer has subtly released its global new models launch plan.
Importantly, Mercedes-Benz EQC will arrive somewhere in mid-2019. The EQC looks very similar to the GLC-Class in profile, with which it shares its underpinnings. The EQC is powered by two electric motors mounted on each axle which gives it all-wheel drive capabilities. This set up combines to put out 407PS and 765 Nm. The two motors are not identical, the one in front is tuned towards efficiency while the latter is tuned towards spirited driving. Power comes from an 80 kWh battery which can get from 10 to 80 per cent charge in 40 minutes with a fast charger. The new-gen GLE will reach international dealerships early next year, meaning its India debut can be somewhere in the mid or end 2019. Two powertrain options have been unveiled so far with more being expected closer to the car's launch. The first is the GLE 350 with a 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder petrol which puts out 255PS and 370 Nm. The second engine option will come in the GLE 450 with its 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder petrol which will put out 367PS and 500Nm. A further 22PS and 250 Nm will be avaialble via the EQ Boost 48-volt integrated/starter system. All engines will be mated to Mercedes' nine-speed automatic.
Mercedes will be updating the GLC and the GLC Couple in the third quarter of 2019, which makes us believe that the India launch of the same can happen sometime in 2020. The flagship offering, the GLS too will receive a new-gen makeover and so will the CLA 4-door Coupe. A 2019 CLA Shooting Brake too is in works that will happen later next year. Additionally, a new-gen V-Class is also being developed. It is being said that this van offering will be going through a serious design and powertrain revision when launched early 2019.
