2019 Mini Cooper JCW (John Cooper Works) launched in India at Rs 43.5 lakh
ÂBMW has launched the 2019 Mini John Cooper Works (JCW) in India at a price of Rs 43.5 lakh, ex-showroom. The Mini JCW facelift, available only as a 3-door, is the range-topper of the Mini line-up, which was itself refreshed internationally and launched in India last year.
The 2019 Mini JCW, however, benefits from further mechanical upgrades over the standard 2-litre petrol Mini, as well as the various special edition JCW-enhanced Minis offered in India previously. For reference, while those JCW editions would wear the John Cooper Works badge, they can be identified by the 'S' badge on the front grille - signifying the starting point being the Cooper S, with extra cosmetics and tuning from JCW.
The Mini JCW, on the other hand, uses a mechanically uprated (new pistons, turbo and exhaust) version of the same 2-litre turbocharged petrol powertrain, to net a total of 234PS and 320Nm torque - a 24PS increase over the 210PS-equipped Mini JCW Pro Edition, the last 'hot' Mini sold in India. The safety electronics kit also sees recalibration in line with the JCW's sportier intentions, and the adaptive suspension is standard on the JCW. The Mini JCW puts its power down via an eight-speed automatic transmission, and this helps it make the 0-100kmph dash in 6.1 seconds. The Mini JCW also gets larger 4-piston Brembo brakes, which are cooled by the functional vents in the front bumper, placed there in lieu of fog lamps.
The features list is headlined by the optional 8.8-inch central touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay only, JCW sports seats, and a heads-up display, apart from strategically placed John Cooper Works branding. The hatchback also gets a Harman and Kardon music system.
The 2019 Mini John Cooper Works has no direct competition, but can be compared to the less expensive Skoda Octavia RS in terms of power, while it also competes with the other driver-oriented cars like the BMW 3 Series in terms of price.
