2020 Hyundai Aura sub-four-metre sedan shown in sketches ahead of December 19 unveil
Hyundai has released a few design sketches of its upcoming sub-four-metre sedan, the Hyundai Aura. The Aura has been derived from the recently launched Grand i10 Nios and is meant to replace the Hyundai Xcent as the firm's entry-level sedan offering.
The sketches, though heavily stylized, give us a clear picture of what the Aura will look like in the flesh. The front end is very similar to the Nios, but with certain differences like a grille pattern and a new twin, DRLs incorporated into it. The lighting units, bumpers and bonnet designs seem to have been carried over. The rear section is more revealing, given us details on how the Aura will differ from the Nios. The new sedan seems to get coupe-ish roofline, accentuated by the upward sweeping window line, and the vented C-pillar element finished in black. The boot seems to have a high-set deck, which ends in an upswept rear-end. The tail-lamps are also unlike anything we've seen from Hyundai before, with a C-motif and wide two-part design. These cues seem to have been derived from Hyundai's newest design language, as seen on its newer cars like the international market Sonata.
The Aura will come with three engine options, all of them BSVI compliant. Two of these are petrol, and one is a diesel. The base engine is the 1,197cc four-cylinder Kappa unit good for 83PS at 6,000 rpm and 114 NM at 4,000 rpm. The diesel is the three-cylinder 1,186cc U2 CRDi motor that makes 75PS at 4,000 rpm and 190 Nm at 1,750 to 2,250 rpm. Both engines will be available with a 5-speed manual and, new for this generation, also with the 5-speed AMT that debuted on the Santro. The 998cc, three-cylinder turbocharged motor that debut in the Venue is also expected here. With 120PS@6,000rpm and 172Nm@1,500-4,000rpm, this should come with a six-speed manual.
The Aura is expected to come a premium over the Xcent, although the base variants could start at very similar price points. Notable features will be projector headlamps, R15 diamond-cut alloys, leather-wrapped steering wheel, wireless phone charger, smart key with push-start, 8-inch touchscreen audio infotainment system with Android Auto/Apple Car play and Arkamys sound, auto AC
and cooled glovebox, projector fog lamps, and so on.
The Aura is expected to rival the Honda Amaze, Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Tata Tigor and Volkswagen Ameo.
