2020 Hyundai Sonata globally unveiled - India bound?
The new 2020 Hyundai Sonata was unveiled ahead of its official debut. The executive sedan is currently in its eight-generation and gets styling inspired from the Le Fil Rouge concept showcased at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. The all-new Sonata will be showcased at the New York International Auto show which will be held from April 19 - 29, 2019.
The 2020 Sonata gets a cascading grille with chrome highlights upfront. The DRLs extended from the LED headlamps to the A-pillar along the crease of the hood. Multi-spoke alloy wheels add a sporty character to the luxury sedan. The roofline descends to the boot of the car giving it a notchback silhouette. The rear sports an aggressively styled diffuser and the tail lamp is sharply designed which runs across the width of the car.
The cabin is equipped with a Bose sound system which applies digital signal processing technology to place the occupants in the centre of the audio regardless of their position. The multimedia system is adaptive and adjusts the equalizer based on the speed of the car.
The dashboard gets fabric similar to the seats and the door panels and a touch screen infotainment system is placed in the centre. The air-conditioning vents have been shrunk to add a sense of space to the cabin. The cabin also gets ambient lighting and satin chrome accents on the steering wheel.
The new Sonata has a 30mm lower ride height than its predecessor and is 25mm wider. The wheelbase is longer by 35mm and the overall length is increased by 45mm.
The technical specifications have not been unveiled yet however we suspect the car will be offered with the same 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with a plug-in hybrid. The all-new Sonata could be offered in the Indian market to take on the likes of Toyota Camry, Skoda Superb and the Volkswagen Passat, but not anytime soon. We can expect the Korean car makers to showcase the Sonata at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo.
