2020 Kawasaki Z650 and Ninja 650 coming soon

The 650 twins were supposed to be launched around March and April this year but the sudden Coronavirus pandemic has delayed the timeline of these launches along with many other products. We have been seeing more digital launches in the country and globally as well because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Hopefully, the lockdown will be lifted by 3rd May excluding those parts of the country where the risk is still imminent. And we will be seeing the Z650 and Ninja 650 soon.

The twins would be powered by a BSVI compliant 649cc liquid-cooled fuel-injected parallel-twin engine mated to a six-speed gearbox that makes a maximum power of 68PS and a maximum torque of 64Nm. Braking duties are performed by a 300mm dual disc up front and a 220mm single disc at the rear. Damping duties are performed by 41mm conventional telescopic forks for the front section and an adjustable back-link for the rear section.

Both the bikes get a similar wheelbase of 1410mm and a ground clearance of 130mm. The seat height is also the same at 790mm and the tank can hold up to 15 litres. The only difference would be the weight, the Ninja 650 weighs 5kg more than the Z650. Also, the Z650 is 25mm wider than the Ninja 650, but the Ninja is 80mm taller than the Z650. Almost identical.

Both bikes get LED headlight and tail lamp, a TFT dash with Bluetooth connectivity and new Dunlop Sportmax Roadsport 2 tyres. New graphics and colour options will also be offered for the 2020 models.

There is no news on the price yet, but we can expect a hike of Rs 50-70,000 on the outgoing price. For reference, the current Z650 retails at Rs 5.69 lakh ex-showroom and the Ninja 650 costs Rs 5.89 lakh ex-showroom.
