2020 Mercedes-Benz EQC electric SUV launched in India at Rs 99.3 lakh
The 2020 Mercedes-Benz EQC 400, the automaker's first all-electric vehicle, has been launched in India, carrying an introductory sticker price of Rs 99.3 lakh, ex-showroom, for the first 50 customers. With an 80kWh battery pack, the EQC 400 has the largest capacity battery pack of any electric vehicle on sale in India currently, and a claimed driving range of 400+km. A real-world driving range up to about 320km seems possible, going by our observations from our first drive review.
The EQC 400 will initially be sold in six cities in India - Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad, with dedicated EQ Corners in select dealerships in these cities. It will also be available to order online, even for customers outside of these six cities. Importantly, Mercedes-Benz India is setting up a network of over 100 charging locations, equipped with 50kW DC fast chargers, which can charge the EQC from 10-0-100 per cent in 1.5 hours. Included in the introductory pricing of the EQC 400 is the 7.2kW Wallbox charger that Mercedes-Benz India will install at the residence or workplace of the customer, which can charge the EQC (from 10-100 per cent) in 10 hours.
The EQC shares its underpinnings with the GLC SUV, riding on the same wheelbase and suspension setup, though its overall length eclipses the GLC by 104mm. The EQC is also far more aerodynamic, at 0.26Cd compared to the GLC's 0.36. For reference, the prices for the Mercedes-Benz GLC petrol and diesel range from Rs 52.7 lakh to Rs 57.7 lakh.
Other noteworthy specifications include a total of 408PS and 760Nm of all-electric torque, courtesy twin-electric motors. With one on each axle, tuned for either efficiency or dynamics depending on the situation, the EQC 400 boasts of all-wheel drive capabilities. Claimed 0-100kmph stands at 5.1 seconds, while top speed is limited to 180kmph. The interiors see some additions, in the rose-gold louvres of the AC vents to help differentiate it, otherwise remaining similar to the cabin of the GLC.
Mercedes-Benz India is offering the EQC 400 with a 'Hi-5' customer service package for 5 years/unlimited kilometres, which includes comprehensive services, warranty and Mobile roadside assistance. This is apart from the 8-year battery warranty as standard on all EQC 400s. As such, the EQC has no competition in India, but we've seen the Audi e-Tron on our shores before, and it is expected to launch in India soon. Jaguar also is said to be looking to bring in its all-electric I-Pace SUV in the near future.
