2020 Porsche Taycan is the fastest four-door EV on the Nurburgring
German car brand Porsche unveiled the tech laden interior of the 2020 Taycan recently, its all-electric offering. And now there is an official video of the 2020 Porsche Taycan doing a lap on the famous Nurburgring Nordschleife. The company's pre-production model has lapped the 12.8 mile long circuit in 7:42, driven by Porsche test driver Lars Kern. This timing set by the 2020 Porsche Taycan makes it faster than the Honda Civic TypeR, Volvo S60 Polestar and also the Mercedes-AMG E63 S wagon, making it the fastest four-door EV on the track.
The isn't the first time that the pre-production model of the Porsche Taycan has been taken on a race track, as the company recently brought the all-wheel drive EV on the Nardo ring track in Italy wherein it covered a distance of 2,128 miles (3,424km) in 24 hours - this equals to the distance from the Porsche headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia to the Porsche Experience Center in Los Angeles, California. With peak temperatures of 107 degrees Fahrenheit and a track temperature of up to 129 degrees, the average speed was kept between 121 and 133mph.
Porsche mentions, the Taycan is the first fully electric production vehicle with a system voltage of 800 volts. This technology helped the 919 Hybrid win the 24 Hours of Le Mans three times in a row and is now making the leap into series production. The 800-volt technology enables consistently high performance, reduces the charging time and decreases the weight and the packaging space of the cabling. During the en-durance test drive at the Nardò Technical Center, 800-volt charging stations by Porsche Engineering Group GmbH were used. These stations will also be used in a joint venture with Ionity.
