2020 Volkswagen Golf GTI unveiled

Volkswagen flaunts its favourite hatchback just ahead of the Geneva International Motor Show. The new Golf GTI has been new cosmetic updates with keeping the enthusiasts in mind and therefore it gets new styling cues on the inside and outside.

The car on the outside still retains the basic Golf design but it gets new styling cues which sets it apart from the standard model. In the front, the car gets a light-up bar above the radiator grille with red accents. This bar covers most of the car's face from headlamp to headlamp with the proud VW badging at its centre. The honeycomb bumper now gets optional LED clusters, it adds to the aggressive character of the car. The car sits on new angular five-spoke design wheel with the same red brake calipers. At the back, the car gets new LED taillights and a newly designed spoiler that stands out. The GTI logo is now re-located to the centre from the bottom corner which freshens up the look at the back. The dual-exhaust pipes further accent the sporty style of the car.

On the inside, the car gets a new 10-inch infotainment cluster that sits at the centre of the dashboard and it has ambient lighting with 30 colour options. You get digital gauges which again can be customized in terms of colour. you also get an optional 10.2-inch digital touchscreen with navigation integrated into the centre touchscreen. The car retains the plaid seats with GTI themed red stitching and accents. The centre console has been re-done completely and looks quite new, there is a new shift-by-wire for the DSG and new push start button that blinks before it fires up the engine.

The car houses a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine mated to a  manual six-speed gearbox or an optional seven-speed dual-clutch DSG transmission. The power figures are 248PS and 370Nm of torque. There is also a new McPherson front axle and multi-link rear suspension.

A new system has been added to improve the driving dynamics between comfort and sport modes. Volkswagen calls it the DCC which in other words can be called an adaptive chassis control system. It reacts quickly to the road conditions while taking steering input, braking and acceleration into account. The expected price of the new Golf GTI will be a figure around the 25 lakh price mark.
