2021 Volkswagen Taigun launched in India, prices start from Rs 10.50 lakh

Volkswagen India has launched the first of its India 2.0 offerings in the country with the Volkswagen Taigun. Prices for the Taigun start from Rs 10.50 for the base Comfortline 1.0 variant and go up to Rs 17.50 lakh for the top GT Plus 1.5 dual-clutch. Production of the Volkswagen Taigun began just over a month ago at Skoda-Volkswagen India's Chakan plant, where it is built alongside the related Skoda Kushaq. Bookings for the Taigun has also begun across Volkswagen dealerships and 12,221 units have already been booked.

2021 Volkswagen Taigun engine, gearbox, mileage

The Volkswagen Taigun is being offered with two petrol engines, no diesel is available. The range starts with the familiar 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with 115PS and 175 Nm, offered in the low to mid-spec versions of this new Volkswagen SUV. With a six-speed manual, the six-speed torque converter from the Vento is also available. The 1.5-litre turbo-petrol that makes 150PS/250 Nm and pairs with a seven-speed DSG is being offered on higher trims. The larger engine gets a six-speed manual as well in an entry GT variant. The top GT version is offered in the 1.5 turbo and DSG combination.

The 1.0-litre manual versions of the Volkswagen Taigun return a fuel efficiency of 18.10 kmpl which drops to 16.44 kmpl for the six-speed AT versions. The 1.5-litre GT variants return 18.47 kmpl with the manual and 17.88 kmpl with the DSG.

2021 Volkswagen Taigun features, safety

Notable features on the inside of the Volkswagen Taigun are Type-C USB charging, connected-car features, a 10-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Android Auto/Apple Carplay, wireless charging, an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, a single-pane sunroof, climate control, ventilated front seats, up to 17-inch alloy wheels, ambient lighting and large amounts of interior storage. The Taigun, along with the Kushaq, is one of the first mainstream cars to offer ESC as standard. Other than this, there are six airbags, TPMS, hill-hold function, rear parking camera, front parking sensors and ISOFIX child seat mounts. 2021 Volkswagen Taigun dimensions, specifications

The Taigun is based on the heavily indigenized MQB-A0-IN architecture, developed as part of the group's big product push for India. The Taigun is one of four cars to be based on this, starting with the Kushaq and one sedan each from the two brands to follow. The Taigun has the longest wheelbase in the segment at 2,651mm. 2021 Volkswagen Taigun prices, warranty, service cost, rivals

Prices of the Volkswagen Taigun's top-spec Topline 1.0 AT costs Rs 15.91 lakh while the base GT 1.5 manual is priced at Rs 15 lakh. The new Volkswagen Taigun will compete against the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Tata Harrier and MG Hector. The Mahindra XUV700 and the upcoming MG Astor are other competitors. The Taigun will come a 4-year warranty extendable upto 7 years, a four-year roadside assistance package and three free services. Service packages start from Rs 21,999.
