2021 VW Tiguan to launch in India soon
Volkswagen India is shoring up its SUV lineup ahead of the launch of the all-new made for India VW Taigun in the festive season, with the launch of the 2021 VW Tiguan set to occur in the next few months. The facelifted VW Tiguan saw its international debut last year, and brings with it a new face, rear end styling, and a more upscale cabin including a revamp of its feature list. Like the larger Tiguan Allspace 7-seater, the refreshed Tiguan in India will solely be powered by a 2.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine (190PS/320Nm) paired with a 7-speed DSG automatic and 4Motion all-wheel drive. Expected in the next few months, ahead of the VW Taigun launch, the refreshed VW Tiguan will be a CBU and as such will likely be priced in the Rs 29-32 lakh bracket (ex-showroom).Â
While dimensions of the 2021 VW Tiguan remain largely identical to its predecessor, the front end sees a massive departure in styling, with the Tiguan gaining the wider, streamlined grille and IQ.Light LED matrix headlights that characterises the new VW lineup internationally, including dynamic turn indicators front and rear. The IQ.Light system consists of arrays of multiple individual LED diodes that automatically adjust to speed conditions and the direction of the road, including a glare-free high-beam, for safer low-light driving performance.
The bumpers front and rear are redesigned, with an overall sharper look coming through the C-shaped cutouts in front, though it remains to be seen if the sportier R Line trim is what's launched here, or the SE (Life) trim which is available internationally with 18-inch alloy wheels, as confirmed for the model coming to India.Â
The facelifted Tiguan sees improvements in the cabin, with an 8-inch digital instrumentation cockpit, and 8-inch touchscreen infotainment running VW's new MIB3 software. Physical buttons have also been trimmed down, with touch-sensitive buttons with haptic feedback for the climate controls. The new 3-spoke steering wheel also gets illuminated touch-sensitive controls for media/cruise control functions. The features list is expected to include 3-zone climate control, Harman/Kardon audio, wireless smartphone integration, 15-colour ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof, 6 airbags, and the full suite of passive driver safety aids.Â
We spotted the updated VW Tiguan testing earlier this year, and its competition in India includes the refreshed Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson, and upcoming Citroen C5 Aircross, though the VW Tiguan is the only one to offer petrol-power only.
Update: We've been asked to refrain from using imagery of the facelifted VW Tiguan until images are provided to us, but for a better look at the Tiguan coming to India head here.
