2022 Hyundai Tucson gets a 3-star rating in Latin NCAP crash test
Latin NCAP has given the 2022 Hyundai Tucson a 3-star overall safety rating. The SUV scored 81.61 percent in the adult occupant category, 69.53 percent in the child occupant category, 48.40 percent in the category for pedestrian protection and vulnerable road users, and 55.81 percent in the category for safety assistance.
According to the test report, the car provided adequate protection for the driver and passenger's head, neck, and chest. The driver and passenger's knees received just fair protection. The tibias of the driver demonstrated acceptable and good protection, whereas those of the passenger showed good protection. In the frontal impact test, the footwell and bodyshell received a stable rating.
The 3-year-old dummy's child seat provided adequate protection and was capable of preventing head exposure. Throughout the side impact test, the child restraint system (CRS) provided complete protection.
The Hyundai Tucson received a pedestrian protection score of 23.23. The car displayed places with high levels of protection, but the upper leg performance displayed regions with low levels of protection.
The decision by Hyundai to update the I-size marking and make 3-point belts mandatory, among other upgrades, together with the safety features and good performance, account for the elevation to 3 stars. Latin NCAP also evaluated optional features including Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Support Systems, and Road Edge Detection, all of which performed well, but since they are not mandated by Latin NCAP and are tested in lesser numbers, they are not factored into the final score or star rating.
