2022 Mahindra Scorpio Classic unveiled with new engine, suspension

Mahindra has revealed the updated, previous-gen Mahindra Scorpio. The SUV has now been rebadged the Mahindra Scorpio Classic and gets cosmetic upgrades, more features in a refreshed interior but also goes on to add a new engine as well as revised suspension components.

2022 Mahindra Scorpio Classic exterior changes, dimensions

The Mahindra Scorpio Classic gets a new grille, quite similar to the one on the Scorpio-N and the XUV700. The new Twin Peaks logo makes an appearance here while the headlamps have been tweaked marginally. The front bumper has been reworked to include a silver skid plate, new LED DRLs as well as fog lamp housings. There is a new grey paint option too.

There is a new dual-tone design for the 17-inch alloy wheels while the side cladding has been tweaked with silver elements. At the rear, the full-length taillamps return while the rear bumper now includes a wide step. The Mahindra Scorpio Classic remains dimensionally unchanged and is 4,456mm long, 1,820mm wide and 1,995mm tall. The wheelbase is 2,680mm. The Scorpio Classic has a 27-degree approach, 25.4-degree departure and 23.9-degree ramp over angle.

The Mahindra Scorpio Classic has a new beige and black colour scheme on the inside with fabric upholstery. The big new feature is a 9-inch touchscreen with Android Auto/Apple Carplay. Other notable features are cruise control, steering mounted switches, static bending lamps, driver's seat height adjust, climate control and powered mirrors.

Safety features include two airbags, ABS, auto door lack and seat belt reminders.

The Scorpio Classic can be in a 7-seater captain seat version with a third-row bench, a seven-seater bench option with rear side-facing seats, and a nine-seater version. The variant list has been truncated to two, a base S and a fully-loaded S11.

 2022 Mahindra Scorpio Classic engine, suspension changes

With this update, the Mahindra Scorpio Classic now gets the 2.2-litre mHawk engine as seen in the Thar and Scorpio-N base variants. This motor puts out 130Ps and 300 Nm and is paired with a new six-speed manual. There is no automatic or 4WD option.

The suspension setup has also been reworked to reduce body roll and improve high-speed stability while changes have been made to reduce steering effort. Mahindra has also worked on improving the Scorpio's NVH characteristics with this update.

2022 Mahindra Scorpio Classic expected price, launch date

The Mahindra Scorpio Classic should launch in India in the next few weeks. Prices should undercut the Scorpio-N and start from Rs 10 to 11 lakh.
