2022 Maruti Suzuki Alto spied revealing more details
A new video of the upcoming 2022 Maruti Suzuki Alto has shed more light on what the entry-level hatchback might look like. These images now give more sense of what the 2022 Alto might look like, and point to a full redesign for Maruti's bestseller.
2022 Maruti Suzuki Alto exterior, interiorThe images show that the 2022 Maruti Suzuki Alto will carry a more expressive face, highlighted by the large swept-back headlamps with LED DRLS now integrated that seem somewhat similar to those on the upcoming new Celerio. There should also be a much larger grille with more styling flourishes, as seen on the Alto's competitors. The silhouette seems largely unchanged from earlier, but we can expect to see a few more body lines and enlarged dimensions. The rear is again dominated by a large taillamp cluster although the camo hides the true shape of the hatch. The 2022 Maruti Suzuki Alto can be expected to switch to Maruti Suzuki's newer Heartect architecture. A version of this platform derived from the S-Presso may be seen here. This should lead to larger exterior dimensions and a roomier cabin.
2022 Maruti Suzuki Alto features, safety
The new Alto should come with more features aside from changes like a new dashboard and instrumentation. The current Maruti Alto's 7-inch touchscreen infotainment with Android Auto/Apple Carplay, front power windows, central locking, steering mounted controls and so on. Safety features should match government-mandated norms and include dual airbags, ABS, rear parking sensors, seatbelt warning and so on.
2022 Maruti Suzuki Alto engines, gearboxThe 2022 Alto should carry over the same set of engine and gearbox combinations as the current car. It comes powered by a 796cc three-cylinder motor that makes 48PS at 6,000 rpm and 69 Nm at 3,500 rpm. The CNG version puts out 41PS at 6,000 rpm and 60 Nm at 3,500 rpm. Both come paired with a five-speed manual. The ARAI-rated fuel efficiency figure for the current petrol Alto is 22.05 kmpl while the CNG is rated at 31.59 km/kg. A more powerful K10 version with the 1.0-litre motor making 68PS and 90Nm should follow later. The larger engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and an AMT.
2022 Maruti Suzuki Alto expected price, rivalsThe 2022 Maruti Suzuki Alto should see a Rs 30,000 to 40,000 increase in prices over the current version. The Alto is priced from Rs 3.15 lakh and tops out at Rs 4.82 lakh. The larger dimensions and expanded features list should make the next generation Alto a closer competitor to the likes of the Renault Kwid and the Datsun Redi-go.
