2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class to not get long-wheelbase version in India
Mercedes-Benz India is set to launch the fifth-generation W206 Mercedes-Benz C-Class on May 10. Ahead of this, Santosh Iyer, head of sales and marketing at Mercedes-Benz India has confirmed to OVERDRIVE that this new C-Class will only come in a single wheelbase option. The long-wheelbase version available in other markets will not be sold in India.
The company is of the opinion that the new C-Class will cover most needs of C-Class buyers. The 2022 C-Class has a 25mm longer wheelbase with 21mm of it going to the rear passenger space. The C-Class is also 10mm wider than before and offers more head, leg and shoulder room than the last-gen model. Further, Mercedes India also says that buyers who place a premium on rear-seat space will more often than not choose the E-Class LWB anyway.
Another reason for not offering the C-CLass in LWB form may be to get to close to the E-Class LWB in price. The new C-Class showed come at a fairly significant price hike over the current car, prices of which start from Rs 50 lakh. Prices for the E-Class LWB start from Rs 67 lakh, which leaves too narrow a gap to fit in another variant. In any case, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class has been a big success since it was launched, consistently topping the sales charts for Mercedes-Benz India.
