2022 Toyota Hilux 4x4 pick-up priced starting from Rs 33.99 lakh
Toyota Kirloskar Motor has announced prices for the 2022 Toyota Hilux with base manual 4x4 starting at Rs 34 lakh. Bookings for the Hilux began in January but are now on hold due to the ongoing global supply chain shortages.
2022 Toyota Hilux engine, specificationsThe Toyota Hilux is based on the same IMV ladder-frame architecture as the Fortuner and Innova and shares most of its mechanical components with the SUV. The India-spec Hilux is powered by the same 2.8-litre turbo-diesel that puts out 204PS and 500 Nm and pairs with a six-speed automatic and a six-speed manual with 420 Nm. The motor gets only the Eco and Power modes unlike in the Fortuner but is tuned differently to suit this application The Hilux gets the same 4x4 system with a low-range gear and comes with other off-roading gear like hill-descent control, a limited-slip rear differential with electronic rear differential locking and A-Trac brake-based torque-vectoring system. There is also a tyre-position indicator and a variable-ratio steering system.

The Toyota Hilux gets a unique dashboard design but shares most of its interior features with the Fortuner. Highlights here include soft-touch dash materials as well as leather upholstery along with dual-zone climate control, 8-inch touchscreen with Android Auto/Apple Carplay with 6 speakers, connected car tech - Geo-Fencing, Realtime Vehicle Tracking, Walk to Car etc. and all-round LED lighting.
The Hilux has a five-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating with features that include seven airbags, vehicle stability control, hill-start assist, anti-theft alarm, whiplash protection front seats, ISOFIX child seat mounts and ABS.

The double-cab Toyota Hilux being introduced in India is 5,325mm long, 1,855 wide and 1,815 tall. The pick-up can carry up to 1,015 kg in its load bay in this body style and has a laden ground clearance of 217mm. The Hilux sits on 265/60 R18 alloy wheels and gets disc brakes at the front and drums at the rear. A notable difference from the Fortuner is that the Hilux sits on a rigid rear axle with leaf-spring suspension for its more heavy-duty applications, unlike the multi-link set-up in the Fortuner. The Hilux has a 700mm wading depth, 29 degree approach and 26 degree departure angle.
2022 Toyota Hilux prices, rivalsThe mid-spec Toyota Hilux 4x4 High MT is priced at Rs 35.80 lakh while the top-spec 4x4 AT costs Rs 36.80 lakh. This is Rs 1.20 lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh less than the similar drivetrain options in the Fortuner. The Toyota Hilux's closest rival is the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross, prices for which start from Rs 22 lakh for the 4x4 versions.
