2022 Triumph Tiger 1200 launched; prices start at Rs 19.19 lakh
Triumph has launched its flagship Adventure motorcycle in India and we get four of the five variants available in markets abroad. This is an all-new breed of the Tiger 1200 which made its world premiere last December. It's undergone a major overhaul with a host of updates over the model it replaces. New motor, new chassis, new suspension, new everything apart from some bolts carried over from the older model's parts bin.
There are two families of the new-gen Tiger 1200 âÂ" the GT and the Rally. And while markets abroad get five variants of the new bike âÂ" the base GT, the GT Pro, the Rally Pro and two more equipped 'Explorer' versions of both the GT Pro and Rally Pro models, India misses out on the base GT variant, for now. Prices are Rs 19.19 lakh for the GT Pro, Rs 19.69 akh for the GT Explorer, Rs 20.19 for the Rally Pro and 21.69 for the Rally Explorer (all prices are ex-showroom, India).
At this introductory pricing, the Tiger 1200 undercuts its closest rival, the BMW R 1250 GS, by some fair margin because the bikes from the German marque are priced at Rs 20.55 lakh - 22.50 lakh for the Standard GS and GSA respectively. The new breed of Tigers come with a good amount of kit and tech as standard, while with BMW bikes you'll have to opt for the optional packages to match-up in terms of equipment. And they don't come cheap.
While the Honda Africa Twin can be seen as a bike that's as capable as the Tiger and the GS in this displacement capacity, and is the more affordable bike of the lot - at Rs 16.01 lakhÃÂ for the manual transmission and 17.55 lakh for the DCT version - it's down on tech, equipment and power in comparison.
